Letter from a Former President Concerning the Mother’s Day 5k Run

People of the Greater Denver Area:

5k run

Woodrow Wilson – He Presidented Before

I’m here to tell you why you should sign up for the Mother’s Day 5K Run, and put the ‘run’ in your brunch, as the kids say these days. You see, on May 11, it will have been 100 years and two days since I, Woodrow Wilson, proclaimed the second Sunday of May to be a day to honor mothers across the country.

Well, a lot has changed since the days of the Woody Administration, as the talking heads used to call it. For instance, I see that President Beck is dealing quite courageously with civilization’s impending doom, as the Good Lord above hurls giant balls of ice mercilessly at our planet, in line with the wisdom of his plan.

Mother’s Day 5K Run

So I say unto thee: Run! Run for your lives! Run for your mothers! Denver’s Mother’s Day 5k is May 11, 2014, at 9 a.m. in City Park. Spots are limited, so follow this hyperlink supplied to me by Thomas Marshall to  register for the Mother’s Day 5K run.

This run is in support of the HERA foundation, who have been fighting for a cure to ovarian cancer since 2002.  Also…

SFoM Is Rocking The Course

Which sounds like a lot of nonsense to me, considering that I’m Woodrow Freaking Wilson and I don’t know what an SFoM is, but Thomas Marshall, who’s been watching the MTV’s, tells me that SFoM is the best thing to happen to music since Edison’s Gramophone and Tesla’s alternating current.

So do something this mother’s day. Wake up, go for a run in Denver for a good cause, hear some music, and have fun with your mothers! How long will it take you and your mom to run 5 km anyway? I don’t know what a km is! I’m Woodrow Wilson! Metric system! Dear me…
Long live Mom!

Woody

5W’s: SFoM & The Mother’s Day 5k Run – Denver

OK, the five W’s… who what when where why…

Who Is… wait, what’s going on?

SFoM (that’s us) and the HERA Foundation.

What Is the Mother’s Day 5k Run?

The Mother’s Day 5k Run – Put the ‘run’ in your brunch! It’s a 5k run full of awesome and in support of a good cause – finding a cure for ovarian cancer. How is SFoM involved? We’re rocking the course! While you’re breaking a sweat from getting your run on, we’ll break a sweat getting our rock on… and we’re doing it for you, which is in effect doing it for moms everywhere, because you’re going to be doing this 5k run for moms everywhere!

When Will This Spectacular Event Be?

Mother’s Day – May 11, 2014 – 9 am… 100 years and 2 days after the first official Mother’s Day, as proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson.

Where Around Denver Can I Run 5 kilometers to Support Mom?

City Park, Denver. The one by the Natural History Museum. …the place with the dinosaur bones you went to in elementary school.

Why Are You Guys Doing this?

Besides it being an awesome event to get out and play some music for the sort of people who’d do a charity run on a day to honor their mom, we like to help good causes. The HERA Foundation is a non-profit focused on finding a cure to ovarian cancer, through spreading awareness and by awarding grants to scientists with novel approaches to fighting the disease.

Celebrate Aurora with SFoM at Gibby’s in Aurora Tonight!

We’re ready to believe you

Yeah, so we’re playing some gig tonight. I think the show has already started. Music, beach volleyball, chicken wings, beer… it’s all there at Gibby’s Sports Saloon in Aurora. We take the stage at 7:45 pm.

It’s free to enter.

What’s the occasion? Gibby’s is having an End-of-Summer Party to Celebrate Aurora and benefit the givingfirst.org charity, and their drive to help the victims of last month’s movie theater tragedy. There is a silent auction going on, and also they will be taking donations. According to Gibby’s page about the event, if you donate $50, you get access to a VIP area where there’s free beer.

So if you got nothing going on, come on down to Aurora tonight (August 25, 2012), listen to some music and help a good cause.

Also, Jammin’ 101.5 is co-hosting the event with Gibby’s, so they might make us play some Bobbie Brown (it’s their prerogative).

Saturday Night! SFoM at Ned Kelly’s, Downtown Littleton!

Hey everyone, if you’re looking to drink, if you’re looking to party, if you’re looking to ROCK, come on down to Ned Kelly’s (Directions) in downtown Littleton this Saturday night, May 7! The music starts at 8 pm, and we can go all night.

RMS Lusitania

We’ll have the usual mix of covers and originals, and as always, you should expect the unexpected. Wear comfortable clothes, because you might need to make some moves.

Don’t forget to pick up a free four-song CD if you come by! You can also download us here on this site, or you can scrobble us at Last.FM.

Can’t wait to see all your smiling, drunken faces.

xoxo,

SFoM

Thanks For Your Help!

Tomb Raider Medipack

We want to thank everyone who made it to Bushwackers Saloon last night. Our Red Cross fundraiser was a big success – with the money at the door, and the extra donations made by fans we earned $255 to donate to the Japanese tsunami relief efforts.

We’d especially like to thank A Thief’s Plot and C4x for participating and donating their money also. It’s always great playing with C4x. They play the kind of music that gets played on Little Steven’s Underground Garage radio show.

Last night was the first show for the up-and-coming A Thief’s Plot. Their donation should make for some good rock karma. When I heard it was their first show, I told a few people they were noobs to the scene. When they started playing, I took it back, figuring I must’ve been mistaken. They were pretty good, and it was indeed their first show. They told me they rehearsed every night last week in preparation for the gig. They’re a bunch of cool guys, and we hope to play with them again.

We gotta give a shout out to Amish Combat who punked up the joint with a four-song set between A Thief’s Plot and SFoM. “There’s a supermoon tonight… and we’re gonna kill it.” Amish Combat is another musical project featuring SFoM’s own Matty Moore on drums.

Finally, a shout out to Tricia Smith for constructing the Red Cross donation box and making it look like one of those medipacks from Tomb Raider. Some highlights from the night:

  1. We raised some money to help people in dire need.
  2. Amish Combat… nuff said.
  3. A Thief’s Plot hit the ground running with their first show.
  4. C4x sounded great.
  5. Some new faces got a chance to check us out.
  6. Big, enthusiastic crowd.
  7. Bushwackers beer is actually pretty good. It’s a brown ale or something.  Not sure where it comes from…
  8. People ask about “Tell Me” every time we play it.
  9. We nailed “The Snake Song.”
  10. We got a couple more SFoM t-shirts out there.

Thanks again to everyone in attendance. Every little bit helps, and it means a lot to us that you came out and supported our effort to help the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

SFoM Wants To Help! Red Cross Fundraiser March 19 For Tsunami Relief in Japan

Last week’s 9.0 earthquake in Japan and the resulting tsunami are among the worst disasters we’ve ever seen. If that’s not enough, there are people working to stave off a nuclear disaster which has already been called worse than Three-Mile Island.

People lost their lives, and many who survived this disaster lost everything. Before Japan can even consider rebuilding, they have to deal with the present humanitarian crisis which includes shortages of power, food and shelter.

We are both humbled and proud to be working with the Mile-High chapter of the American Red Cross to raise funds for the massive relief effort necessary in Japan. We will be donating our proceeds from the door, and collecting donations to be turned over to the Red Cross on Monday. As always, we’ll have plenty of free CDs to hand out.

Come on down, have a beer, and rock out for a good cause. Your fellow man needs you!
