Denver Paper Fashion Show

The 11th Annual Art Director’s Club of Denver Paper Fashion Show just took place on April 10, 2015. Among the many in attendance was SFoM’s bass player, who took footage from the event of Sakura Lab’s “Siren’s Call” dress and edited it together with an instrumental track from SFoM’s upcoming studio project.

For those curious, this is an instrumental version of a song called “Reason to Sin.” The designers of the dress were Tricia Smith, Angela Mavers and Richard Smith. The ADCD Paper Fashion Show is a fundraising benefit for the Downtown Aurora Visual Arts program.

Letter from a Former President Concerning the Mother’s Day 5k Run

People of the Greater Denver Area:

5k run

Woodrow Wilson – He Presidented Before

I’m here to tell you why you should sign up for the Mother’s Day 5K Run, and put the ‘run’ in your brunch, as the kids say these days. You see, on May 11, it will have been 100 years and two days since I, Woodrow Wilson, proclaimed the second Sunday of May to be a day to honor mothers across the country.

Well, a lot has changed since the days of the Woody Administration, as the talking heads used to call it. For instance, I see that President Beck is dealing quite courageously with civilization’s impending doom, as the Good Lord above hurls giant balls of ice mercilessly at our planet, in line with the wisdom of his plan.

Mother’s Day 5K Run

So I say unto thee: Run! Run for your lives! Run for your mothers! Denver’s Mother’s Day 5k is May 11, 2014, at 9 a.m. in City Park. Spots are limited, so follow this hyperlink supplied to me by Thomas Marshall to  register for the Mother’s Day 5K run.

This run is in support of the HERA foundation, who have been fighting for a cure to ovarian cancer since 2002.  Also…

SFoM Is Rocking The Course

Which sounds like a lot of nonsense to me, considering that I’m Woodrow Freaking Wilson and I don’t know what an SFoM is, but Thomas Marshall, who’s been watching the MTV’s, tells me that SFoM is the best thing to happen to music since Edison’s Gramophone and Tesla’s alternating current.

So do something this mother’s day. Wake up, go for a run in Denver for a good cause, hear some music, and have fun with your mothers! How long will it take you and your mom to run 5 km anyway? I don’t know what a km is! I’m Woodrow Wilson! Metric system! Dear me…
Long live Mom!

Woody

The Mother’s Day 5k Run – Put the ‘run’ in your brunch! It’s a 5k run full of awesome and in support of a good cause – finding a cure for ovarian cancer. How is SFoM involved? We’re rocking the course! When Will This Spectacular Event Be?

Mother’s Day – May 11, 2014 – 9 am… 100 years and 2 days after the first official Mother’s Day, as proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson.

Where Around Denver Can I Run 5 kilometers to Support Mom?

City Park, Denver. The one by the Natural History Museum. …the place with the dinosaur bones you went to in elementary school.

Why Are You Guys Doing this?

Besides it being an awesome event to get out and play some music for the sort of people who’d do a charity run on a day to honor their mom, we like to help good causes. The HERA Foundation is a non-profit focused on finding a cure to ovarian cancer, through spreading awareness and by awarding grants to scientists with novel approaches to fighting the disease.

No, it’s not misspelled. It’s named for its founder: Nathaniel Bushwackers. The famed 19th Century frontiersman/pioneer/trapper/trader/bar founder who wandered here from Kentucky after his moonshine still exploded and blew up a section of his town (including the church).

Gig Details, for those of you so inclined to join us:

  • 1967 S. Broadway

I think Pearl Jam must’ve watched one of our old videos…

Well, not really… but there are some similarities between the new Pearl Jam video for “Mind Your Manners” on their upcoming Lightning Bolt release, and this old video of us playing “Final Ride of the Ghost King” at the Skylark a few years back. It’s probably our “artiest” video, if you’ll permit me to make up a word to describe it.

Here are the videos for you to compare for yourselves:

“Final Ride of the Ghost King” – SFoM

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaZbu5OZE-c]

We played that night with File 13, a band that’s still kickin’ around on the underground. Special thanks to Dave for letting me play his bass that night.

“Mind Your Manners” – Pearl Jam

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWQYYavheUA]

As you can see, we both felt our songs were about the natural and manmade destruction of the world. And we both like to rock out.

Thanks for coming to The 12 Volt last night!

We had a spectacular time last night at The 12 Volt Tavern. Thanks to everyone who got out and supported us again; thanks to Eugene’s Axe for an epic set, and thanks to Miller Lite for the hangover (and also, thanks to my girlfriend for driving me home…and stopping at Wendy’s).

Rumor has it there was some good footage, so we’re gonna cut that up and distribute it to keep things interesting.

We’re gonna huddle up and get ready for the next set of plays. We’ll be releasing some new music soon, and of course we’ll keep you posted on that. We’re looking to jam in the Highlands next, and we’ll let you know when that’s finalized.

E Pluribus, SFoM.
